Dr. Kenneth Hartigan - Go MD, MD(UK), FPCP, FPSECP, FPSCOT
Dr. Kenneth Hartigan- Go currently serves as Executive Director of the Zuellig Foundation, and has held the post since its inception in March 2001.
He earned his MD from the University of the Philippines, his postgraduate doctorate degree in clinical pharmacology and toxicology from the University of Newcastle-upon-Tyne in the United Kingdom, and completed his internal medicine and toxicology training at the Philippine General Hospital. He was a former professor at the UP Manila College of Medicine, a former Deputy Director of the Bureau of Food and Drugs and was concurrently Manager of the National Drug Policy Program of the Department of Health. The National Drug Policy Program acts as Secretariat to the National Drug Committee in the publication of the Philippine National Drug Formulary. During his tenure at the Department of Health, he created the DOH accreditation body for short-listing drug supplier to the government and served as Vice-Chair of the Dangerous Drugs Board. He participated in the inception and planning of the Health Sector Reform Agenda during the first quarter of 1999 under the leadership of former Health Secretary Alberto Romualdez and had a hand at its implementation until May 2001. He was also responsible in setting up the Adverse Drug Reactions Monitoring Program for the DOH from 1994-1997 under AusAID assistance. He also sits on the Health Technology Assessment Committee of the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation. He also sits as the secretary of the Medicine Transparency Alliance. Last December 2007, he was appointed by Her Excellency President Gloria Macapagal - Arroyo of the Republic of the Philippines as Health Scientist member of the National Committee on Biosafety which was organized by the Department of Science and Technology. His recent appointment was to sit as a member of the Congressional Commission on Science, Technology and Engineering Health panel. Also, he just received the most distinguish fellow award from Philippine College of Physicians and the 6th Jose Rizal Award for Excellence in Medicine given by KAISA and Manila Times last May and June 2008 respectively.
He did consultancy for projects relating to drug regulation, reproductive health and environmental health. His consultancy included USAID on Contraceptive Self-Reliance, European Commission on HSRA Assessment, and USAID-PRISM on Product Registration of Hormonal Products. Recently, he conducted another consultancy project with USAID-PRISM relating to Midwives' concerns and enhancing their role in healthcare delivery.
The work that The Zuellig Foundation does contribute to strengthening HSRA through investment in leadership and management training to mid-level DOH and LGU health officials. Part of this engagement involves active linkages with the Philippine Business for Social Progress, League of Corporate Foundations, Corporate Network for Disaster Response and other business sectors.
He is actively involved in the Philippine College of Physicians, Philippine Society of Experimental and Clinical Pharmacology, and the Philippine Society of Clinical and Occupational Toxicology as a fellow and serves in various capacities as board of regents and board member in these organizations. He holds memberships in international societies like the American Academy of Clinical Toxicology, European Association of Clinical Toxicologists and Poison Centers, International Society of Pharmacovigilance and the Asia Pacific Association of Medical Toxicology.
