Brief data about Russia

 

 The Russian Federation is situated in the Eastern part of Europe and Northern part of Asia.  Its territory covers   about 17075 thousand square kilometers.  Russia  borders  on  16 countries. The capital of Russia is Moscow. The population of Russia makes more than 142 million persons. Russia possesses rich history, high culture and  a  big research-and-production potential. There are about 650  universities and higher schools in Russia. Among them the leading education and scientific establishments are Moscow State University, Saint-Petersburg  State University, Ural State  University, Novosibirsk State University. Russia's scientific potential   comprises  about 3000 state research establishments. The share of Russia in the  world volume of gross national product makes more than 7 %  in the beginning of the 21st century.   Much attention is lately drawn to the development of innovation projects  the priority areas of which are information and telecommunication systems; industry of nanosystems and nanomaterials; power industry and energy saving; life systems; sound management of natural resources.
