Welcome
Welcome to the Washington Nuclear Museum and Educational Center (WANMEC).
This site is dedicated to providing comprehensive information on the role Washington State played in the age of nuclear proliferation in 20th century America. The museum will initially focus on the Hanford Nuclear Reservation, with information on Hanford's history, its effects on surrounding environments and populations, and current news on its cleanup.
In the future, we plan to unveil new exhibits to educate the public about other nuclear endeavors in Washington State, both past and present. Along with providing historical information on Washington State's involvement with nuclear weapons research and production, we examine the science and technology in the context of history, culture, and society along with the costs to the environment and human health that nuclear technology can have. By studying the past we prepare for the future wise use of technology to create a more peaceful and sustainable world.
