Dr. Holly Barker taught a course in which students considered the political uses of science in the development of U.S. nuclear policies. At the end of the course students picked a community of people and looked how Hanford and/or U.S. nuclear policies impacted them. They made a project that related their stories to others. Here is a sample of the projects.

The painting represents the secrecy around Hanford and denied access to resources to the Navajo miners by the US government between the 1940’s to the 1960’s. The Navajo Native American community is one with nature, they mined the hills around Hanford, Washington in order to support their families and stay close to the sacred land. Their bodies were poisoned with lung disease & esophageal cancer and their land was destroyed by the unforgiving governments need to support nuclear power. Awareness to unsuspecting communities is needed in order to protect the next human generation.
Yuanting Feng created a website about Rocky Flats Plant.
