From March through August 1943, the DuPont Company contracted B&T metals to extrude uranium fuel rods from uranium metal billets. This was done in support of the Manhattan project and the rods were sent to Hanford for use in the reactor. An estimated 50 tons of uranium was extruded at this site and sent to Hanford.

When the extrusion project was completed, representatives from the Manhattan Project and DuPont conducted a visually inspection of the site to verify that all sweepings, turnings, solid scrap, and other remnants had been removed.

In 1988 and 1989 the DOE conducted radiological surveys to evaluate the conditions at the site. Elevated concentrations of uranium were identified inside the main building in the floors, drains and in the dust on support beams. Elevated gamma radiation was detected in soil samples taken from the area where process fluids and shavings from the extruding were reportedly disposed of. Decontamination of the facility was conducted from March through June 1996 under the direction of Bechtel National.
