The Cold Vacuum Drying Facility is completed. This plant will prepare spent fuel removed from the K Basins before it is shipped to a dry storage plant nine miles from the river. The plant will receive canisters loaded with spent nuclear-fuel assemblies from the K East and K West reactor basins, pump out most of the water, then dry them using a vacuum process. The dried fuel then will be shipped to a storage building in the reservation's central 400 Area, where the canisters will be placed in shielded underground silos.
