"The Society of Toxicology (SOT) is a professional and scholarly organization of scientists from academic institutions, government, and industry representing the great variety of scientists who practice toxicology in the U.S. and abroad. SOT is committed to creating a safer and healthier world by advancing the science of toxicology. The Society promotes the acquisition and utilization of knowledge in toxicology, aids in the protection of public health, and facilitates disciplines. The Society has a strong commitment to education in toxicology and to the recruitment of students and new members into the profession." (from SOT web site)

"The Society of Toxicology was founded in 1961 as a not-for-profit scientific society. The historical accounting of the Society, Society of Toxicology 1961-1997, is now available on-line. The Historical account from 1961-1986 was compiled by the past SOT Historian, Dr. Harry W. Hays, and is available both in print and on-line. Dr. Robert Scala, the past SOT Historian, has compiled the historical content from 1986 to 1997, which is available on-line. The history from 1998 to the present will be added to the site as it becomes available." more on SOT history
