Overview

Richard Mead (or Meade) (August 11, 1673 - February 16, 1754) was born. Mead was an English physician who wrote A Mechanical Account of Poisons in Several Essays, the first English-language book dedicated to poisonous animals and plants. He also wrote extensively about scabies and was recognized as the head of the medical field in England by 1714. His work, A Short Discourse concerning Pestilential Contagion, and the Method to be used to prevent it (1720), was of historic importance in the understanding of transmissible diseases.
