Pitohui

Overview

The Pitohui is the only poisonous bird known to date. An account of it was first published in Science in October of 1992. The Pitohui is endemic to Papua, New Guinea and owes its toxicity to batrachotoxins acquired from eating a certain species of beetle. The toxin is secreted in the bird's skin and feathers.
