  • 1783 - François Magendie, a French physiologist and pioneer in experimental physiology, was born on this day. Magendie researched the effects of morphine, quinine, strychnine, and other alkaloids on the nervous system and is regarded as the father of experimental pharmacology.
  • 1966 - LSD was declared illegal in the United States.
  • 1918 - Corwin Herman Hansch was born, Professor of Chemistry at Pomona College in California. He became known as the 'father of computer-assisted molecule design.'
