Toxipedia Update - May 2009

It has been a very busy time for the Toxipedia Suite of Sites, which include Toxipedia, IPMopedia, the Healthy World Theater, and the upcoming World Library of Toxicology. On May 5th, IPMopedia's Project Manager Nick Thorp was on KUOW Seattle's Greenday Gardening Panel, discussing integrated pest management. Last week, Toxipedia made its Twitter debut. And on June 4th, Toxipedia Managing Editor Steven Gilbert will be the featured guest on the Collaboration on Health and the Environment's Science Call. Please listen to the podcast, call into CHE's Science Call, and, as always, keep using the Suite of Sites.

Featured Article: "Thalidomide"

There is some discussion regarding who first synthesized Thalidomide, with some claiming it was synthesized by the German pharmaceutical company CIBA in 1954, the German company Grunenthal in the 1950s, and the Nazis in the 1940s (Franks, et al, 2004, Gutierrez, 2009, Foggo, 2008).The most infamous adverse health effect associated with Thalidomide is birth defects.
