  • 1907- Rachel Louise Carson was born. Carson was an American marine biologist whose book Silent Spring is often credited with having launched the global environmental movement.
  • 1907 - An outbreak of Bubonic plague began in San Francisco, California.
  • 1910 - Robert Koch died on this day, discovered anthrax bacillus, the tuberculosis bacillus and the cholera vibrio and for his development of Koch's postulates that define causation.
