Jean Nicot (1530 - May 4, 1600) was a French diplomat and scholar, brought the Tobacco plant to Europe and it was named after him as well as Nicotine. He sent Tobacco and seeds from Portugal to Paris in 1550 and promoted their medicinal use. Nicotine was first isolated from the Tobacco plant in 1828 by German chemists Posselt & Reimann.
