Overview
On February 26, 2010, the University of Delhi, India, auctioned to a scrap dealer a Gammacell 220 research irradiator which contained cobalt-60. After dismantlement of the equipment, the radiation resulted in the death of a scrap-metal worker; seven workers fell ill, two of whom are in critical condition. The Gammacell 220 was imported from Atomic Energy of Canada Ltd. in 1968 but had lain unused since 1985.
