Overview
Gangrene is the necrosis and later decay of body tissues. It is caused by an infection of the tissues or thombrosis or a ceasing of blood flow. It is often caused by a combination of injury or poor blood flow with bacterial contamination. The best treatment is a restoring of the blood flow (revasculation) of the affected organs, most often in in the extremities.
