  • 1826 - Theodore George Wormley was born in Wormleysburg, Pennsylvania, USA. Wormley was a medical doctor at the University of Pennsylvania who wrote The Micro Chemistry of Poisons, the first American book dedicated to poisons.
  • 1970 - President Richard Nixon signed the Public Health Cigarette Smoking Act into law. The Act required surgeon general's warnings on tobacco products and banned cigarette advertisements on American television and radio beginning January 1, 1971.
